Shakti Opens Mad Contemporary Gallery and Art Center
Cutting-edge Contemporary Art Gallery Opens in Madrid, New Mexico
MADRID - Mad Contemporary Gallery and Art Center opened on January 14, 2023 in Madrid, New Mexico with a festive celebration featuring live music and well renowned local art. The art center will host art classes for all ages, open studio times, workshops taught by various local artists, drop-in art making, and evening events.
Mad Contemporary exudes a soho feel, featuring more of warehouse/modern vibe than any other gallery in Madrid. Featuring abstract paintings, geometric sculpture, shape-based mobiles, art clothing, ceramics and jewelry, this brand-new art space is curated with a passion for abstraction. The combination of gallery and art center merges owner Shakti Kroopkin’s talents for creating and teaching with a community-oriented approach that supports collaboration. Mad Contemporary is a queer safe space.
“This has been a dream of mine for years,” said Shakti Kroopkin. “I want to create a space where our community can come together to share, create, and exhibit art. I want to foster a collaborative community space that offers something different and more meaningful than traditional galleries.”
Mad Contemporary is exhibiting the abstract artwork of Shakti Kroopkin, paintings and metal jewelry by Lori Swartz, sculpture and pendants by Laird Hovland, textured acrylic paintings on panel by Steven Dinse, minimalist paintings by Onna Voellmer, mobiles by David Estes, and ceramics by Shane Silva.
Gallery hours are currently Monday-Thursday 12-3pm, Friday-Sunday 12-5pm.
